After arriving at Union Park and catching some bits and pieces of Olivia Tremor Control and A$AP Rocky, I took my place for my official kick-off to Pitchfork Music Festival weekend, Japandroids. Being a 3-time veteran of the Vancouver garage-rock duo’s shows, I knew what to expect: relentless energy, lots of guitar fuzz, thrashing drums and anthemic sing-a-longs, but that (nor the rain) didn’t diminish the onslaught of awesome that was their Friday evening set. Plus, this was my first time seeing them since they released their incredible sophomore album, Celebration Rock so hearing tracks like “Andrenaline Nightshift”, “Fire’s Highway” and “The House That Heaven Built” (easy crowd-favorite) was an absolute thrill.
