Commercial Watch: Jónsi, Rogue Wave, Big Boi + more

Date February 24, 2011

It’s time for another edition of Commercial Watch, where I again highlight some of the best and brightest indie songs that are out there soundtracking commercials for cars, mobile phones, chewing gums and national football leagues. Since I know all of you are the Hulu / DVR / next-day-on-youtube type, here’s a few of the best tunes that the modern day Don Drapers and Peggy Olsons have been digging up. Just saw another commercial worthy of this section last night (though I think it’s been around for the better part of a month or two). There’s a Honda CRV commercial that uses ‘Rescue Song (RAC Remix)’ by Mr Little Jeans. Catchy little tune.

Likewise, there’s an ad for I believe Marshall’s or something like that, of which has been using Mouthful of Diamonds, from your site’s Top 100 from last year.

I think I used good grammar right? My teacher told me I have to work on that.

“The Only Living Boy in New York.” Great song from a great album (Bridge Over Troubled Water) from one of the all-time great partnerships.

Hey nice list, thought that was M. Ward! Have you seen the commercial (it’s a car commercial..Ford?) that uses “Janglin” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Or maybe that’s old hat? haha

There’s a Cloud Cult song on a commercial for Emerson Worldwide Advertising (I think). It’s “No One Said It Would Be Easy.”
