Alabama Shakes @ Bonnaroo (6/7)
June 12, 2012
For a band who just released their debut album in April of this year, Alabama Shakes sounded and performed like seasoned veterans. The band’s lightning-fast rise earned them a headlining spot on day 1 of Bonnaroo; they played in front of an overflowing crowd at the This Tent and they knocked it out of the park. I’ve just recently gotten acquainted with their album Boys & Girls, and after witnessing their spellbinding set, it’s quickly climbing up my list of favorite 2012 releases. It’s no secret that lead singer Brittany Howard has some amazing pipes, but her bandmates can easily hold their own as well mixing bluesy, rip-roaring rock-and-roll with her powerful, soulful vocals. Hearing the band perform the rapturous finale of “Be Mine” live definitely goes down as one of favorite moments of the festival.
