Video: Death Cab for Cutie playing “No Sunlight” in a Cab

I’m actually coming around to Narrow Stairs recently. It’s better than Plans, it might overtake Something About Airplanes also (but I doubt it). No way it’s touching Photo/Facts/Trans. Either way, the band recently did a Black Cab session where they played album highlight and probably second single “No Sunlight”. The acoustic version seen in the video above is lovely (download the MP3 here), and the album version actually reminds me a bit of “The Angels Share” by Ted Leo.

So, what are your thoughts on Narrow Stairs? Is it a return to greatness for a band or the nail in the proverbial coffin?

I haven’t listened to it yet, but I really liked plans, so I expect to like Narrow Stairs.

I really liked the album. I was very surprised by it to be honest. It still has that proverbial euphoria feeling that almost all death cab albums have; especially if you listened to it in high school. haha.

I enjoy it as well. Sure, it’s straight-up Death Cab, and they didn’t do anything in particular to change their style (like many people are convinced that they need to do) – but it’s a solid album with some good tracks. I agree that it won’t reach the heights of Transatlanticism, the Photo Album, or We Have the Facts, but it’s a good listen.
Oddly enough, I like hearing the acoustic/demo tracks I’ve been scraping up from random blog sites a bit better than the album tracks.

To be honest I was really disappointed with this album. I agree with the comment about it being a solid album. I think it is a solid album. Maybe I just had really big expectations and got let down. Either way it just doesn’t do much for me right now.

it’s definitely, sadly, a nail in the proverbial coffin
