Spoon / Queens of the Stone Age – Live @ Austin City Limits

Date September 18, 2007

After the insane dance party that was LCD Soundsystem, I headed over to catch some of Spoon’s set. I could only make it about midway through the crowd, but by the time I settled in Spoon kicked into “Don’t Make Me A Target” and “You Got Yr Cherry Bomb” the latter one being complete with horns. Afterwards the band kicked into some old favorites, “Johnathon Fisk” and “The Fitted Shirt”.

Unfortunately, many of the songs they played I think would work better in a club setting where you can hear the nuances of the music a little better while the songs I wanted to hear most like “Sister Jack”, “The Way We Get By”, and “Finer Feelings” were skipped over. Out of the songs I saw, the easy highlight was “Black Like Me”.

As Britt and Co. finished up, I headed over to catch the end of Queens of the Stone Age. I haven’t ever gotten into the band too much but one of my friends that was at the fest with me, Robbie, swears by them. I could see why as we watched the band, they put on a hell of a show. They played “No One Knows” and a couple other heavy-hitting rockers within the timespan I was there and it was pretty enjoyable. I’ll probably make an effort to check out a Queens album in the next couple of days because sometimes you just gotta put up the two finger “rock on” salute and get crazy.

If you could check out one and only one Queens of the Stone Age record, make it “Rated R”

    Or “Songs for the Deaf”
