Who’s Worse? Creed vs. Limp Bizkit
July 13, 2007
The weekend I’ve been anticipating all summer is finally here, but while I’m up in Chicago enjoying the likes of Of Montreal, Sonic Youth, Iron & Wine, Klaxons, Cat Power, and De La Soul, I have the ultimate “who’s worse” battle prepared for you.

Previously we’ve decided that Hoobastank is far worse than Maroon 5 and Staind is slightly more unlistenable then Puddle of Mudd. I asked for suggestions last time, and this match-up was by far the most requested, perhaps because both Creed and Limp Bizkit created new milestones for all unspeakably horrible bands (there’s also the real life feud between Scott Stapp and Fred Durst that’s just icing on the cake).
Creed as become the embodiment of predictable, lifeless modern rock music. What really brings the band to a new level of offensiveness, though, is the complete tool of a front man that is Scott Stapp. It’s hard to imagine what is worse: his ridiculous Jesus poses, his signature cat-in-the-back-of-throat growl, the constant whining, or his God-complex of an ego (he actually pulls himself out of the water and into a boat in one of the most self-centered music video moments ever). For Creed’s worst moment I would submit “One Last Breath” (MP3). It’s hard to put into words how much I can’t stand this song, but I think it speaks pretty loudly and obnoxiously itself.
With a name like Limp Bizkit and album titles like “Chocolate Starfish And Hot Dog Flavored Water” you would think this band is some kind of sick joke on humanity. You actually can feel your brain cells disintegrating while listening to this music (if you can even call it that). I seriously can’t imagine anything more vomit-inducing than Fred Durst (perhaps the biggest backwards-cap-wearing douche in existence) screaming lyrics like: “where the f*** you at punk, shut the f*** up and back the f*** up, while we f*** this track up”. Profound, Fred. I don’t know who’s horrible idea it was to mix metal, rock, and rap, but I hope they get sent to the Ironic Punishment Division in Hell and are forced to listen to “Rollin’ (MP3) for eternity, because that would be worse than any torture I can think of.
So it’s up to you to decide which one is worse, while I’m gone. Cast your votes in the comments section, and make sure you have something to back-up your claim. I expect a fierce debate when I get back…

Creed, no contest. I don’t care who you put them up against, Creed wins, if only because of the ridiculous amounts of airplay they received. They were ubiquitous, and I will never forgive them for the amount of suffering they caused.
That’s not to say Limp Bizkit is good. But I have enjoyed being able to escape most of their catastrophes. Although I did once see a video he made for record executives before he was successful. I wish I could find it, because it was just him rapping with a huge gold chain on, and it was hilarious (much like his later rapping, in a bad way).

Eww…Limp Bizkit is probably worse than Creed, but it’s a toughie.
July 13th, 2007 at 1:08 pm
I have to vote Limp Bizkit hands down. Sure, Creed was horribly overplayed – but some of those songs that were cranked on the radio: “Higher” “My Own Prison” are actually filled with hooks and would not be as repulsive if played by someone else. Limp Bizkit, however, is a horrible idea that may have seemed original at the time “Let’s mix the worst genre’s together to make a super-terrible-genre.” It just doesn’t come close to holding up today.
July 13th, 2007 at 1:16 pm
undoubtedly, limp bizkit is far worse than creed. i’m not a fan of creed, but i do try to give them a minimal amount of credit, seeing as how two of the three members went to my high school. however, creed does make the butt of countless jokes, including a reference in the movie “without a paddle”. they’re both pretty bad bands, but my vote stays with limp bizkit as the worse band ever.
July 13th, 2007 at 1:28 pm
It’s a hard choice, but I pick Creed. When I think back to when I first heard both of them, I remember hating Creed from the very beginning. Limp Bizkit was the kind of hate that seeps in over time…..oh yeah, and Alter Bridge sucks just as bad (same damn band if you ask me).
July 13th, 2007 at 1:56 pm
Damn! This is like the Bizarro worlds version of Sophies Choice. They’re just both so goddamn godawful. But I’m gonna go with Creed.
July 13th, 2007 at 2:15 pm
creed! Hands down. Overplayed generic music that lay down the foundation for more overplayed generic music.
July 13th, 2007 at 3:19 pm
Creed is just a Christianized rip of Pearl Jam, at least Limp Bizkit was kind of original back in it’s hey day, though still horrible.
July 13th, 2007 at 4:00 pm
Yeah, on an individual level, Limp Bizkit’s crimes against music were probably worse than Creed’s, but to me, it’s like comparing a serial killer (Limp Bizkit) to an act of genocide (Creed). On a per case basis, Creed might be less heinous than LB, but their acts were much more widespread, therefore crowning them as the worst of the worst.
July 13th, 2007 at 7:16 pm
Creed. After enduring months of “with arms wide open” on heavy rotation i wouldn’t be able to vote for any other band as the worst. They even have a pretentious name and a Bono-bashing lead singer.
July 13th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
Like Hitler v. Pol Pot, when you get down to it both are utter and foul expressions of an absolute evil, and the one you think is most heinous is really just a matter of personal context.
For me it’s Creed. They are the sound of souls dying on clear channel radio stations.
July 13th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
Creed, at least limp bizkit more or less died out, but since Creed still remains fairly popular, they win.
July 14th, 2007 at 12:41 am
I’m going to go with Limp here…. while Creed is terrible, at least their music seems to have a point…
July 14th, 2007 at 1:05 am
for how much i get creeped out by the guy in limp bizket who wears the creepy contact lenses (didn’t he end up quitting the band anyway?), i still have to say creed is worse.
i just threw up a little in my mouth looking at scott stapp’s hideous tattoo, but i’m definitely way into those super-hip necklaces.
July 14th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
Creed
July 14th, 2007 at 5:29 pm
First, I’d rather slit my throat than be faced with having to suffer the excruciating pain that is either group’s music. They’e equal disgraces to music as a whole and should be starved, then put into a cage to see who cannibalizes whom first.
But–Creed never publicly encouraged abuse or rape of women at their shows, which surely warrants a special place in that Hell of yours just for Fred Durst and his pea-brained cronies.
July 14th, 2007 at 6:35 pm
Creed is by far worse. You still hear their horrible songs on the radio to this day as a cruel reminder that there’s been nothing better to supplant them in the minds of program directors, with the exception of Nickelback. Vomit. At least the Bizkit is dead and buried. Rot in Pieces, both of them!
July 14th, 2007 at 7:40 pm
nickelback… yes… nickelback
July 14th, 2007 at 9:21 pm
I must say creed because all of their music sounds like the same crap and because there is a much greater chance that I will unfortunately have to listen to them while walking through a store than Limp Bizkit.
July 14th, 2007 at 11:23 pm
Though both bands are terrible and induce the same amount of wrist slitting, i think that limp bizkit were about 1% original whereas creed were 0% original. So I’d have to say Creed are worse, by a nose
July 15th, 2007 at 10:49 am
creed… it’s a hard decision, both are worse than the worst, but limp bizcut atleast tried something new (even though the music may be a bit worse)… creed not only did nothing original, but they still infiltrate the music world with their crap… so, by a narrow margin, creed is worse.
July 15th, 2007 at 1:35 pm
Tough decision, but Creed is a little worse in my opinion…
July 15th, 2007 at 4:47 pm
I believe Limp B is a little worse. Creed is harmless. Annoying, yet harmless. Creed’s music is practically elevator music. My body reflexively drowns it out. Limp Bizkit’s “music” bypasses those filters, leaving me with that urge to regurgitate.
July 15th, 2007 at 6:34 pm
Limp Bizkit. 100%.
July 15th, 2007 at 7:24 pm
Creed, and everytime their idiot singer has a new mug shot on The Smoking Gun I still get a laugh.
July 15th, 2007 at 7:41 pm
I’m going to have to give the slight edge to Creed since both were posturing asses and neither has contributed anything of worth. The difference being that Durst embraces it will Stapp tried to appear above it all “with arms wide open.” Let’s all just be thankful that both faded away almost without notice.
July 15th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
I’m going to go with Creed. They are both terrible and it’s a tough decision.
July 15th, 2007 at 10:01 pm
There both bad, but Creed takes it!
July 16th, 2007 at 12:36 am
both bands made the music scene as well as the entire world worse by playing there music…but because creed is simply the worst band in the history of any kind of music, they win by default
July 16th, 2007 at 3:30 am
Its got to limp bizkit for sure. They put a ‘Z’ in there band name is a reason alone. Although they are a bunch of fags, Creed, i think, make better music. i just cant begin to say how much limp bizkit annoy me.
July 16th, 2007 at 9:39 am
Creed. Think of it this way: There are bad movies that are still fun to watch (Showgirls) and there are bad movies that are just plain bad (Gigli?). Creed, if put to celluloid, would be the latter. There is absolutely no joy that can be derived from their output on either a musical or intellectual level. With LB, at least there are some camp (i.e. guilty) pleasures to be gotten from their earlier “work”.
If that doesn’t work for ya’ then consider this: If Creed hadn’t sold so many records, Nickelback might not still be on the radio today.
July 16th, 2007 at 6:02 pm
why do you make this so difficult for us. that is the ultimate…
CREED
July 16th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
I gotta go with Creed. At least Durst has SOME talent.
July 16th, 2007 at 9:56 pm
Creed is worse.
Those who listen to both bands think that they are being rebels, that they are listening to stuff outside of the mainstream. For Limp Bizkit fans, this claim holds some water, even if it’s only because Limp Bizkit is so bad that no one in their right mind actually wants to listen to them, and so that makes them the only ones. However, Creed is not any kind of underground phenomenon: they are only packaged so that they look rebellious, so when these people that listen to Creed talk about how the media is polluting our music and how much cooler they are from “us” because they don’t listen to hip-hop, they end up looking more like douchebags than the Bizkit fans do.
Also, the Creed guy thinks he’s Jesus. Lots of people mistakenly think they’re edgy, but it takes a special kind of crazy to think you’re the son of God. And he *flaunts* it, too. That’s all “Arms Wide Open” was; it was Creed Guy singing, “it’s cool guys, i’m here now, begin commencement of the apocalypse.”
July 16th, 2007 at 10:43 pm
Limp Bizkit x Nickleback = Creed
July 17th, 2007 at 8:22 am
Can we just blame Florida and call it a day?
July 18th, 2007 at 8:24 am
Creed. There comes a point where a frontman has to realize that many people don’t like him FOR GOOD REASON. Pretty sure Durst realizes this, that most of his fans are dull-witted teenage rebels, and that most of his band’s popularity derives from being a voice for this crowd. That has to involve a hardass image and more cuss words in each song than in 10 minutes of a Kevin Smith movie. Durst knows this and I believe he knows that he can easily be seen as a sold-out dbag.
Having said that, it is obvious that I strongly dislike Durst and his band. But I hate both of these bands’ music equally, and Stapp takes the prize here for being a total tool and NOT realizing it.
July 18th, 2007 at 3:10 pm
I agree with a few above, but want to add that although this is the first time I’ve read this blog, I can safely say the answer to all of these “Who’s Worse?” posts is: Nickelback.
I want to get a Nickelback shirt.
July 20th, 2007 at 7:01 pm
This is a close one, but I’ll have to go with Limp Bizlit for the simple fact that Durst has ties to the travesty that was Staind.
Also, though Stapp is single-handedly the most constipated singer I have ever heard, I’d still go with Limp Bizkit being the worse, because just looking at Fred Durst’s face makes you wanna punch him.
November 30th, 2007 at 1:30 pm
Creed is one of the greatest bands i have ever heard. I have grown up around Creed and their music. One last breath is one of my favorite childhood songs. They are one of the best and always will be in my book.

come back creed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 22nd, 2009 at 2:03 pm
Limp Bizkit, hands down. I got into Creed during my youth, so most of Scott Stapp’s lyrics are influenced by Jesus. Though I don’t mind Creed’s musical styles, but Limp Bizkit is more of a rapper stereotype with a hint of rock. Good news for Creed fans, Creed is coming back this summer with a new album, Full Circle. I’ll be getting it as well. Sorry, Mr. Durst, looks like I’m going to kick your ass.

Creed rules !!!!!!!!!!!
