Newsflashes (Lost, ACL, etc)

-As you might have already read today, Lost has been renewed for three more seasons, which puts the big finale right around May, 2010 (Just to be safe I marked my iCal in advance). Each season will be shortened to 16 episodes and they’ll go straight through with no breaks. The last few episodes of Lost have been as good or better than anything they did in Season 1, and the creators have been giving us as many answers as new questions (plane off the coast of bali? jack working with the others?). Last week’s episode was one of the most gritty, heartpounding hours of TV, I’ve ever watched, and next week’s Dharma-centric episode looks even better.

Austin City Limits:

-In more music-related news, the Austin City Limits line-up (or something very close to it) has leaked out and you’d have to be crazy not be excited for this. Here’s a few of the names on the list:

the Arcade Fire, the Decemberists, Ben Kweller, Andrew Bird, Bjork, Muse, Explosions in the Sky, Interpol, the White Stripes, Wilco, Spoon, The Hold Steady, Polyphonic Spree, LCD Soundsystem, The National, M.I.A., The Broken West, The New Pornographers, Devotchka, Bob Dylan, Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys, Of Montreal, Neil Young, Lily Allen (full list now up – here)

note: it’s still considered a rumor at this point, but all the confirmed acts and the ones that I personally know will be there are on the list, so I think it’s pretty believable.

-Have you checked out Blog Fresh Radio yet? Recent contributors include Chromewaves, Everybody Cares, Everybody Understands, Each Note Secure, The Yellow Stereo, and Obscure Sound. It’s a very entertaining listen and I’ve found a lot of new bands through there like Ola Podrida (which just got a 8.0 review on Pitchfork) and The Noisettes.

-Also, thanks to those who participated in the Hoobastank vs. Maroon 5, Who’s Worst Contest. As it turns out, you guys (81% of you at least) think that Hoobastank is much, much worse (and I wholeheartedly agree). The next installment will be up soon!
