Snowfight in the City Centre

Date April 4, 2007

One of the most promising English bands I’ve heard this year is Snowfight in the City Centre. The band has a huge sound and just the right amount of electronica and post-punk thrown in to maintain an original sounding breath-of-fresh-air sound. Their music is somewhere within the realm of Bloc Party and Snow Patrol, which is a good realm to be in if you ask me.

The band’s first single (which was released early last year) was called “No Light Left” and people started taking notice right away. The Manchester press has been all over them since and for good reason, “No Light Left” is a spectacular track. Anthemic is possibly the only word that can describe how they sound, maybe thrilling could do the job also. Imagine if Coldplay actually made something that would make people want to get up and move and you might be getting there, but seriously you should listen to this. Their second single, “Listen” is a bit of a slower, more typical britpop track but it still shows that the band has a ton of potential. “Six Seconds” is being released tomorrow, and it propels them straight back up to where they left off with “No Light Left”. Listen to it at their myspace or website and download their first two singles below:

Interesting fact: The band used to be called Lisa Brown and one of their songs was Snowfight in the City Centre. Then they did a switcheroo and now they call the song Lisa Brown while taking their current (and much better) band name.
