The Sea and Cake
March 11, 2007

It’s been a really busy week and I realize I’m acting like a negligent blogger, but I’m on spring break this week so things will slow down and I’ll have more music / show reviews to share. An album that I’ve had on rotation this week is the upcoming from The Sea and Cake, Everybody. I’ve listened to a bit of their 2003 record, One Bedroom and enjoyed the breezy, laid-back feel. While Everbody retains many of these qualities it’s a much more direct sound.
“Crossing Line” has a distorted guitar line running underneath the smooth vocals while “Exact to Me” features rolling drums and a guitar riff straight out of the surf rock genre. “Lighting” is perhaps the simplest and most likeable song on the album. The drum machine beat keeps your head nodding the entire time while a mixture of guitars, piano, and flutes offer subtle highlights to the song that add to it’s appealing nature. Make sure to pick this album up on May 8th (or preorder it with the link below).

Also, check out the Pitchfork Fest Line-up so far. Of Montreal, Clipse, Cat Power, Grizzly Bear, Iron & Wine. I’m excited…

Sorry dude….this always drives me nuts but i must say it. Their name is The Sea and Cake….not The Sea and THE Cake. Emily used to call them that and i’d want to strangle her! I’m super-stoked for the new one! Been listening to them for over a decade. If you get the chance, go see them, GO…they won’t disappoint. Pitchfork looks killer this year…way more intense than last year.
