Video: Wave Machines – Greatest Escape Ever Made

Date May 3, 2009

I stumbled upon this phenomenal video for Liverpool art-pop group Wave Machines over the weekend and felt an obligation to share it with you. I’ve seen tons of stop-motion videos over the years and this ranks right up there with the best of them.  Throughout the clip, the band is animated playing their instruments on meticulously-created paper cutouts (read about the process here).

This video continuously one-ups itself with great effects.  There’s one scene where the paper cutouts begin to stack on top of each creating a motion trail of the band’s movements. Another shot does a complete 360 around the animated cut-out, reminiscent of the famous mirror reveal scene in A-ha’s “Take On Me” video.  You really have to appreciate the time and effort Token Films put into making this the coolest video possible.
