Newsflashes: Dept. of Eagles. GH: World Tour. New LOST Promo.
October 28, 2008

Although there’s a number of Grizzly Bear songs I really like (Knife, On a Neck, Alligator) and I’m looking forward to the band’s sophomore third album very much, the band never really swept me off my feet like they did with so many others. Nevertheless, I’ve been loving the new album from Grizzly semi-side project Department of Eagles album, In Ear Park, which I picked up after reading a few stellar reviews of the album. The arrangements are undeniably beautiful and I actually find that there’s a much stronger pop sensiblility (just listen to “No One Does It Like You”) on this album then on Yellow House. I actually think this album has a stronger link to Fleet Foxes than anything I’ve heard from Grizzly Bear (call me crazy, go ahead). Anyway, it’s fantastic, will probably rank highly on my AOTY list, and obviously highly recommended.

So I’ll admit, I was one of those guys that stood in line at midnight to pick up Guitar Hero: World Tour, although I think I was the only one that was standing in line with my wife (as opposed to mother, drinking buddy, etc). I’m really glad I did though because the store only had two copies of the Band Kits for Wii, one of which is now set up in my living room. I even got one with a working drums! Some favorite songs so far are Dino Jr’s “Feel The Pain”, MC5’s “Kick out the Jams”, Silversun Pickup’s “Lazy Eye”, Steely Dan’s “Do It Again”, and surprisingly Coldplay’s “Shiver”. Also, Mii Freestyle (pictured above) is really really fun. Anyone else picked this game up?

The first promo for Season 5 of LOST made it’s way on the internet last week and although it’s mostly Season 4 recap it does provide enough intriguing stuff for a LOST fanatic like myself to ponder and speculate over. Much of that speculation deals with the possiblity that the losties are now on a past version of the island. We see Juilette finding the hatch, an image of that Nigerian drug plane pre-Boone, and Daniel encoutering someone in a hazmat suit (Desmond or Radinsky maybe?). Off the island the O6 is running around with guns and just looking generally frightened, although we’re not sure about what yet (good chance though it has to do with this guy.) Watch the promo below via DarkUfO (which is slightly better quality than the one that’s been circulating).

Talking about TV, if you’re not watching The Office this season, you’re crazy. The last episode, Crime Aid, was one of the best since Season 2. Interestingly enough, it reminded me a whole lot of a season 2 episode with it’s emphasis on group scenes and a lot of great character interaction (Dwight & Phyliss = comedy gold). Also, 30 Rock premieres this week which now makes Thursdays the best night for comedy possibly ever. Here’s what it looks like:
8:00 The Office (NBC)
8:30 30 Rock (NBC)
9:00 It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (FX)

Agreed on The Office. It’s seriously been amazing this year. And I’m not sure if you’re a fan, but Sarah Silverman is also on Thursdays right after Sunny. All of my shows fall on the same day.
